Standard Bank Home Affairs Services 2026: Smart ID and Passport Branches

Standard Bank has been offering Home Affairs services at its branches since 2016 as part of the original eHomeAffairs pilot. In March 2026, it launched four additional branches under the Department of Home Affairs’ new Digital Partnership model — bringing its total to 13 participating branches across South Africa.

The two models operate differently. Knowing which type of branch you are going to determines whether you need to book in advance, what services are available, and whether you need to be a Standard Bank client.

Two Models at Standard Bank

Digital Partnership Branches — Walk-in, No Booking (4 branches)

Launched 9–12 March 2026. Bank staff process Smart ID applications using Standard Bank’s own systems connected to Home Affairs via API. No Home Affairs official required on-site.

  • No appointment needed — walk in during branch trading hours
  • Smart ID cards only (no passports yet)
  • Currently open to Standard Bank clients only
  • Application takes approximately 15–20 minutes
  • Payment taken at the branch — R140

Branches: Rosebank, Maponya Mall, Westgate, Parow

eHomeAffairs Branches — Online Booking Required (9 branches)

Original pilot model, operating since 2016 at various launch dates. Home Affairs officials stationed inside the branch process applications on DHA-owned equipment.

  • Online booking required via services.dha.gov.za
  • Offers both Smart ID cards and passports
  • Open to all South Africans regardless of which bank they use
  • Application typically takes 15–20 minutes at your appointment

Branches: Centurion, Killarney Mall, Jubilee Mall, Simmonds Street, Kingsmead, Canal Walk, Mitchell’s Plain, Newton Park, Kathu Mall

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a Standard Bank Digital Partnership branch if I bank with Nedbank? Not currently. The 4 Digital Partnership walk-in branches are restricted to Standard Bank clients during the launch phase. The 9 eHomeAffairs branches are open to all South Africans.

I need a passport, not just a Smart ID. Which branch should I use? Any of the 9 eHomeAffairs branches. The Digital Partnership walk-in branches currently offer Smart ID only. Passport services at Digital Partnership branches are coming in a later phase.

I have an appointment booked at a Standard Bank eHomeAffairs branch but I am not a Standard Bank client. Is my appointment still valid? Yes. eHomeAffairs appointments are not restricted by bank. Your booking is with Home Affairs, not Standard Bank.

Can I book an eHomeAffairs appointment at the Kingsmead branch? Yes. See the dedicated Standard Bank Kingsmead guide for full details on that branch including hours, parking, and what to expect.

How do I check if my Smart ID is ready? Home Affairs will SMS you. You can also SMS your 13-digit ID number to 32552 to check status, or call 0800 60 11 90.
